There I was, ready to hit post.
I’d quit my job and spent three months building my first murder mystery game, something you can download and host a party with.
I’d play-tested it with friends and at my daughter’s birthday parties. I’d shipped games for a living for years. I knew it was good.
Then my stomach dropped, like going over the edge of a roller coaster, minus the fun.
I was about to be just another person on the internet posting something that no one cares about. And to make it work, I’d have to do this every day. I wanted to quit before I’d even started.
I posted for one week. Then I gave up.
That sent me on a three-year quest. My ADHD-fueled, structural-engineering mind got really excited about learning the systems that make marketing work. Yet, I still couldn’t show up and put real energy into the content.
That sinking feeling in my stomach was my body’s way of just saying “no.” It only said yes to marketing that felt human. The kind of caring human who lived inside of me while making my games.
This course is what I wish I had started with, on that day when I felt my stomach drop.
